NACCM
Please Note: The application deadline is July 31, 2008.
The purpose of the National Academy of Certified Care Managers
(NACCM) is to advance the quality of care management services
by assuring individual competence to perform the full range
of care management tasks through a validated, standardized
examination that tests the skills, knowledge, and practice
ethics needed to serve consumers.
NACCM recognizes the diversity of the practice of care management.
As used here the term care management is defined as "a service
that links and coordinates assistance from both paid service
providers and unpaid help from family and friends to enable
consumers with functional limitations to obtain the highest
level of independence consistent with their capacity and preferences
for care" (Geron & Chassler, 1994). Care management must include
face-to-face interviewing, comprehensive assessment, care
plan development, implementation and monitoring, problem-solving,
reassessment and quality evaluation. It encompasses various
settings, target populations, program designs, and levels
of duration and intensity of the care management services.
The National Academy of Certified Care Managers is committed
to offering a valid and reliable certification examination.
NACCM has worked under the expert consultation of Professional
Examination Services (PES)
since 1995.
The automated multiple-choice examination is administered
by Thomson
Prometric. Once the candidate is found eligible
to sit for the examination, the candidate will receive directions
to contact Prometric's toll-free number to register to take
the examination at a convenient time and location. during
one of the testing windows.
All eligible Individuals who pass the examination will be
credentialed and acknowledged by the Academy as a CMC (Care
Manager, Certified). The certification period is for three
years. In order to maintain the CMC, care managers must apply
for renewal every three years and document ongoing care management
practice and continuing education.
